About The Artist

Growing up in a Nicaraguan Catholic (mom) Hungarian Jewish (dad) household, I was exposed to religious and cultural values which sparked a spirit of curiosity in me. I forged an identity around working as a bilingual teacher and organic gardener in the Mission District of San Francisco, and started building up layers of understanding, setting my mind and heart into action in search of an artistic medium.    I discovered art and transformed myself into a modern day alchemist mixing colors, transparent glazes, textured paper, and memories into paintings.  

My series of works focus on the archetype as an anchor to my cross cultural influences. Popular and traditional sources are transformed into archetypal symbols, from a baseball player into a hero to a portrait into a Madonna. I tap into universal patterns of beauty, a figure in motion, an intimate gaze, and elevate their status to a spiritual sphere.

As part of my artistic process ,I embrace Hans Hoffman’s push and pull approach, and give way to the graces of improvisation, putting down a background of intense color washes, tearing up and glueing old newspapers and tissue paper, while allowing shapes and colors to emerge into an abstract space.  I formalize the composition by adding in the figures, weaving in the background and harmonizing contrasts of color like reflective golds with a caribbean inspired turquoise.  

As my art teacher Glenn Hirsch said:
